Winter Wonderland, Big Bucks at Tulloch Creek

By Brenda Valentine
First Lady of Hunting®

November 29, 2010

I recently returned to one of my favorite mule deer destinations, Tulloch Creek Ranch, near Big Horn, Mt. to film another great segment of the Bass Pro Shops award winning TV program, 100% REAL Hunting.

The first big snowfall of the season dumped on us along with some brutal cold temps. The river bottoms and mountain tops were transformed to a winter wonderland.

The Tulloch Creek Ranch is primarily a working cattle ranch where producing prime beef is the main goal. This herd of Herford bulls are patiently awaiting the hay truck this cold morning.

Many species of wildlife call this part of Montana home including the Merriam's turkey. These gobblers are heading to the pines in search of shelter from the snow storm.

Mule deer bucks were on the prowl for does.  The blanket of snow made them easy to see.

Tulloch Creek Ranch is under a strict buck management program so this little guy is protected in order for him to grow to his full potential.

Check out the huge buck to the right of the shooting tower.  That might not be a safe place to be if someone happened to be in the tower.

This young buck was a curious fellow.

Cold air temps and warmer water temps created a thick fog over the Big Horn River which the waterfowl seemed to love.

On the last morning of the hunt I connected with this fine buck. The temp that morning was -15 degrees when we left the lodge and went into the high country.  The equipment I used for this hunt was; RedHead Expedition Fleece clothing in Mossy Oak Infinity camo pattern, Vanguard 10.5 X 45 bino's, Browning A-Bolt .300 WSM centerfire rifle topped with a Leupold VX7 scope with BDC,  Winchester Silver Ballistic Tip  150 gr ammo, Vanguard Shooting Sticks.

My crew for this trip consisted of; l-r Jason Miller (videographer) ,Ken Langguth(videographer), Adam Berg (head guide).

Be sure to catch the show next season on Verses and if you're interested in going on the mule deer hunt of a lifetime contact Adam Berg @ 406-698-7303 or adamrberg@yahoo.com.
