Two of my longtime friends Peggy Ann Vallery, from Arizona, and Donna Leggett, from Georgia, joined me in Tennessee recently for a turkey hunt.
The warm spring weather and solitude of the woods was perfect for clearing the senses and shedding winter blahs.

Hunting in my part of the country usually means either tall boots or wet feet. These creek bottoms make perfect habitat for old long beards.

A wild flower carpet under stately trees creates an almost ethereal setting. It is a perfect place to listen for an old gobbler or take an afternoon nap.

The henned-up Tom's may have evaded us on this hunt but even that cannot hinder the rejuvenating tonic of a few days in the outdoors with old friends.
