Montana Mule Deer

It was another super successful trip to one of my favorite hunting destinations, Tulloch Creek Outfitters, near Big Horn, Montana. This was my 5th hunt on the ranch and the folks there have become an almost second family. As in the past, my hunt was filmed by the Bass Pro Video Department and will air next year on Real Hunting on the Verses network.

Our hostess, Shelley Mitchell, makes a quick stop at the Big Horn post office.

The soft pastel of the winter pastures at Tulloch Creek hide a large assortment of wildlife including mule deer, antelope, elk, whitetails, pheasant, wild turkey, coyote, and lots of small game.

A fluffy snow changed the higher parts of the ranch to a winter wonderland.

Tulloch Creek is a working cattle ranch with real cowboys and lots of hard working cow horses.

Sam Boggio was my guide on this hunt and a pleasure to be around. Sam grew up in the area and is an avid hunter which makes for a winning combination.

Don Cate, a friend from Tennessee, came along on this hunt. He took his first mule deer, this huge 5x5. Afterwards, he took advantage of the excellent pheasant hunting at Tulloch Creek and shot his first pheasants including one old rooster with 24-inch tail feathers. Both trophies are going back to Tennessee with Don to enjoy for years to come.

The Big Horn Battlefield and National Cemetery is located near the ranch and luckily we had one day to visit this historic place. Ken Langguth, Bass Pro videographer, and Shelley Mitchell, read the names of the 7th U.S. Calvery that lost their lives on this open prairie.

A special marker stands for the mass grave of the horses who died during the battle.

The Big Horn Battlefield, museum, and National Cemetery can be seen from atop Monument Hill.
